Urthbox September 2018 Review + Unboxing
Snacks can be dangerous. However, with a snack subscription box like Urthbox, you can indulge all you want! They provide healthy products and offer a classic, vegan, gluten-free, or low-calorie box. Additionally, they offer four different subscription sizes to fit anybody’s budget and snacking habits. Urthbox is a great way to try delicious new snacks!
When I first joined a couple months ago, I chose the vegan plan and the medium-sized box. So far, I’ve been fairly satisfied with my subscription. There have been some negatives that you can read about in previous Urthbox reviews, but overall I’ve enjoyed trying it out.
This Urthbox review will share the snacks I got for the month of September, comparisons to similar snack boxes, and exclusive coupons (such as how to get a free bonus box and $10 off your first month)!
Shipping + Unboxing
My September Urthbox arrived at the very end of the month. When I opened the box, I discovered my snacks as well as a coupon. One thing I dislike is that they don’t include any information sheet about each item as most subscription boxes do. This isn’t that big of a deal though since I can just look up information.
I received 16 different snacks this month! I’ll be reviewing each one in the next section. Plus, Urthbox coupons and comparisons of similar snack subscriptions are below!
Rooted Food Co. Popped Lotus Seeds
These popped lotus seeds are yummier than they sound like they’d be. I got two bags of the jalapeno flavor and they were delicious. Not only do they taste good, but they’re a great alternative to chips or popcorn because lotus seeds have lots of health benefits!
They have plenty of nutrients such as protein, magnesium, potassium, iron, phosphorus, and more. In addition, they’re known to have other benefits such as helping insomnia (because they have sedative qualities), improving stomach health, anti-aging properties, and so on.
This product isn’t anything fancy, it simply adds electrolytes and minerals to your water.
It came with five servings in the lemon flavor, which added a nice citrus taste to my water. I really liked this product and how easy it is to use!
Living Raw Double Chocolate Power Mint Patty
My box came with two of these, which is great because I loved them! They only have a few ingredients, and I was glad to see that they’re sweetened with coconut sugar. Some of the other main ingredients include coconut butter, cacao, and peppermint oil. One patty has 140 calories, which is pretty good because they’re fairly large and dense. They’re very minty and yummy – they taste just like a York peppermint patty!
Al Chipino Bollywood Sweet and Sour Chips
Sweet and sour is one of my favorite flavors, but I wasn’t sure how it would taste as a chip. I was surprised – these were amazing! They’re also healthier than I thought they’d be. They don’t have that much sugar and there are no strange ingredients.
PBFit Peanut Butter Powder
Although this product isn’t new to me, I always love getting more. I commonly use this in smoothies, treats, and anything else I’d normally put peanut butter in. I love it because it’s far less calorie-dense than regular peanut butter because all the oil is gone! The entire packet has just 110 calories.
Even though it’s dried, it still gives the full flavor of peanut butter. You can even mix it with water to create a lower calorie peanut butter spread. This stuff can be expensive in regular grocery stores, so I buy a huge jar at Costco that lasts me months!
Coconut Chai Tea
I was excited to discover this in my box because I absolutely love trying new teas. This coconut chai tea is made with black tea, coconut, cinnamon, and vanilla.
It was delicious! Since I love chai lattes, I tried creating a chai concentrate with one of the tea bags and it worked surprisingly well. I just added some sugar and milk. It’s also delicious as a regular hot or iced tea!
Napz All-Natural Short-Term Sleep Aid
I got this in a previous box, so I’m not sure why I received it again. I’m still trying to use up the first bottle! These pills are a natural sleep aid – they’re made with chamomile extract, passiflora extract, lemon balm extract, and hibiscus flower extract. Chamomile always makes me sleepy, so they worked well for me. However, the pills were huge! I hate swallowing huge pills, I’d rather just drink some chamomile tea before bed to help me sleep.
Sahale Pomegranate Flavored Pistachios
If you’ve seen any of my previous Urthbox reviews, you’ll know that Sahale nuts are haunting me. Although these tasted a little better than the pomegranate vanilla cashews, they still weren’t very good.
Pomegranate just isn’t the right flavor to pair with nuts!
Wasa Gluten-Free Sesame & Sea Salt Crispbread
Once again, I received this product in a previous box. I really liked it though, so I didn’t mind getting another. It’s a full-size box rather than a small sample, which contains eight crispbreads. Although I’ve seen other crackers from Wasa in grocery stores I shop at, I haven’t seen this flavor yet. I would definitely buy more if I did! They’re delicious with a spread (like cream cheese or hummus) and veggies on top. There are plenty of yummy combinations you could create with these crackers!
Teeccino Dandelion Caramel Nut Tea
The flavor of this tea is very creative and sounded like it might be delicious. I was right – it tasted amazing. Plus, it has no caffeine, which means I can drink it whenever I want! Sadly, it only came with one tea bag. I tried reusing it, but it didn’t taste as good.
I would definitely purchase this again!
Texas Pete Hot Sauce
I love spicy foods, so as you can imagine, I love hot sauces as well. Sriracha is my favorite, but I enjoy trying new kinds. This one was good! It didn’t taste very unique, but it did add spice to anything I put it on. Plus, it doesn’t include any peculiar ingredients or additives. The larger sizes of this product aren’t very expensive, so this 1.69 ounce sample only adds about a dollar of value to the box.
Last month, Urthbox accidentally gave me an item that had milk in it. This was upsetting because I get the vegan box, but I figured it was a simple mistake that wouldn’t happen again, so I didn’t let it bother me too much. You can imagine my surprise when I found whey protein (which is derived from milk) in this bar as well!
It’s insane that they made this mistake two months in a row. This could even be dangerous because someone could have allergies and not read the ingredients because all the products in this box are all supposed to be dairy-free.
I’ll be reaching out to their customer service about this to make sure it doesn’t happen again.
Beet It Sport Beet & Oat Flapjack
This bar sounded extremely unappetizing, but I tried it anyway. Although it had lots of nutritious ingredients, this product was not for me! For one, I don’t like beets at all. It also tasted very bland.
Orgain Chocolate Peanut Butter Protein Bar
Normally, I hate protein bars because they always have a strong chalky taste. However, that taste was barely noticeable with this bar! The peanut butter flavor was strong and tasted fantastic.
It’s made with 12 grams of plant-based protein and contains all organic ingredients! Plus, there’s no sugar because it’s sweetened with dates. My boyfriend enjoyed this bar as well.
Almeda Prasada Cacao
This product is just a serving of cacao powder. It was nothing too fancy since I already use cacao, but it may be a great discovery for people who don’t already know about it! Raw cacao powder is similar to cocoa powder, but it’s roasted differently.
It tastes exactly the same (in my opinion) and can be
