Urthbox August 2018 Review + Unboxing
Snacks are one of my favorite types of food to indulge in. To satisfy my snack cravings and try new things, I subscribe to Urthbox! This is one of the food subscription boxes I subscribe to that provides a variety of snacks each month. Urthbox offers the ability to choose from a couple of diet options if you have food restrictions. These include vegan, gluten-free, diet, and classic box options. They also offer four different box sizes to fit any budget, ranging from $19.99 to $39.99.
This Urthbox review will share the snacks I received in my vegan, medium-sized box for the month of August. I will also be sharing coupons and other savings opportunities below, so stay tuned!
Shipping + Packaging
I received my August Urthbox at the end of the month. It was packaged in a large brown box with their branding around it. Upon unboxing, I found 17 different products! Sadly, they don’t provide any information sheets about the products you receive like most subscription boxes do. Most of the snacks have ingredients on the packaging, but I like to read more about them too.
Below, you’ll find a short review for each product I received this month.
Sahale Snacks Pomegranate Vanilla Flavored Cashews
To start off, I don’t understand why these cashews keep arriving in my boxes. As you can see in my previous Urthbox reviews, I’ve received one every month for the past three months! This wouldn’t be a problem if I liked them, but I really dislike them. It seems like they’d be good, but they have such an unusual taste, I can’t stand them.
That’s It Zesty Bar
I got two of these in my box. I received a different flavor of this bar in a previous Urthbox and enjoyed that one, and I was glad to try another flavor! These are all-natural and only have a couple of ingredients. This one simply has pear, apple, and ginger.
You might think it wouldn’t be as yummy as some other bars, but they’re healthier and taste a lot better than I thought they would!
GoMacro MacroBar—Mocha Chocolate Chip
I love anything coffee flavored! As you might imagine, I really enjoyed this bar. I always see this brand in stores but never tried one, so I’m glad I finally got one.
It was filling and full of protein. It’d be perfect as a snack in my bag for when I’m not home and get hungry.
Akrafo Organic Herbal Tea
I was so excited to see this loose leaf tea in my box! Tea is one of my favorite beverages, and I’m obsessed with trying new kinds.
This one is sourced from Africa and contains organic rooibos, natural marula, natural vanilla, and blood orange. It’s delicious! I’m glad it doesn’t contain caffeine—it’s the perfect tea to drink in the evening.
Wasa Gluten-Free Crispbread
This is another pretty popular product that I had yet to try out. I always see it in grocery stores. They were delicious—it’s always nice to find yummy foods that are gluten-free. I spread some hummus and cucumbers on top of them for a fulfilling snack.
Glee Sugar-Free Gum
This is another product that I got in my first box, but I was glad to get another since the packs only come with a couple pieces of gum.
It doesn’t last very long. This sugar-free gum is delicious though! The wintergreen flavor is extremely minty.
Nickelodeon Paw Patrol Mighty Mango Fruit Puree
This looks very kiddish, but I enjoyed it! It was like a fruit smoothie. It’s all-natural and doesn’t have any added sugar or other ingredients.
The only ingredients are apple puree, mango puree, peach puree, and lemon juice concentrate. I stuck it in the fridge to make it cold, and it was delicious.
MRM All-Natural Veggie Elite Performance Protein
My boyfriend was excited to get this! I let him have it because his workouts focus on gaining muscle, and I don’t typically like the taste of protein powders.
He mixed it into a smoothie and said it was one of the best he’s had. I tried a little, and it actually tasted good! Most protein powders taste like chalk to me, so it’s a surprise that I liked this one.
Manitoba Harvest Hemp Hearts Shelled Hemp Seeds
These were just some shelled hemp seeds, which I’ve had before, but I was still happy to receive them! I added them on top of a salad to add some nutrition. I’m glad Urthbox provides such a variation of products to try out rather than just snacks.
Nuturme Veggie + Fruit Yum-A-Roo’s
These were my least favorite snack in the box. It was just a small pack of dried veggies and fruit with some seasoning.
My boyfriend liked them, but I couldn’t stand them. It seems like they’re advertised towards children, but I can’t imagine a child enjoying these.
Napz All-Natural Short-Term Sleep Aid
As I mentioned before, I’m glad Urthbox provides a variety of different products for subscribers to try out. I occasionally have trouble sleeping and am hesitant about taking drugs like melatonin, so I was excited to try out this all-natural sleep aid. It contains chamomile extract, passiflora extract, lemon balm extract, and hibiscus flower extract.
I took it before drinking some chamomile tea before I went to bed, and I fell right to sleep! I’ll have to try it a few more times to see if it’s actually effective. The only negative quality about them is that the pills are pretty large and annoying to swallow.
Free for All Gluten-Free Crackers
I was extremely confused that these crackers were included in my box because they contain milk. It’s the first ingredient!
This is very misleading and disappointing because I chose the vegan box. It could even be dangerous for people who are allergic or can’t have milk for whatever reason and might not check the ingredients of every item.
Parma! Vegan Parmesan
I received a sample of this in my first Urthbox, but I was ecstatic to see it again (even just this small sample). It’s amazing, and I can’t find it for sale anywhere near me. It’s great on anything you’d imagine putting regular parmesan on—pasta, pizza, salad, and more. I might just have to order some online.
Swish Fresh Breath Powder
Once again, I got this in my first box. It comes with three packets. They’re easy to carry around and do well at taming bad breath.
The Soulfull Project Multigrain
This was a delicious breakfast! It contains brown sugar, pecan, oats, quinoa, flax, and chia—lots of healthy ingredients!
It had the perfect amount of sweetness. I added some cold flax milk and banana slices to it.
Dry Sparkling Cucumber Soda
This soda was pretty yummy, but I probably wouldn’t purchase it again since it has a lot of sugar added to it. I loved the cucumber taste though!
Rescue Plus Stress Complex Sugar-Free Lozenges
I didn’t like these very much. They don’t taste very good (they had an artificial taste), and I didn’t notice a change in stress or mood when I had them. However, I don’t become stressed easily, so they might work better for people who do.
Urthbox has some great coupons and introductory deals for new members. For one, you’ll get a free bonus box with any subscription!
There are also coupons that grant money off your first subscription. Surprisingly, the code FATHERSDAY still works for $10 off your first box. If this expires, the coupon code CRUNCHWEEK will grant $5 off your box.
Urthbox isn’t the only snack subscription box I decided to try out—a couple similar boxes I also subscribe to are Graze and Naturebox! If you’d like to discover more options and compare them all, we have a list of the best snack subscription boxes.
Graze is one of my favorites. Their box is affordable at just $13.99 per month for eight perfectly portioned snack packs. They have almost a hundred different snacks to choose from, and this list is always being added to. It’s also a great option if you have dietary restrictions. You can see how to get a free first box in my Graze reviews!
Naturebox, on the other hand, is more flexible because you can pick and choose snacks. This way, you decide how much to spend and how many snacks you get. You can also choose how often to receive boxes. Their yearly fee of $30 gives you access to their member pricing and a $5 monthly credit. If you’re interested in this subscription, I mention how to get $20 off and a free trial for your first box in my Naturebox reviews!
However, I love trying new things, which is why Urthbox is great for me. This month, there were a few products I really enjoyed trying out! The value of my box was well over the original cost, so I’d say it’s definitely worth the price.
