I recently stumbled upon Urthbox, a healthy monthly snack subscription box. Their snacks are all natural, organic, and non-GMO. They offer snacks and beverages tailored to all kinds of lifestyles. I love discovering new snacks (especially healthy ones), so a subscription like this is a must for me. This review will outline my experience using the website, ordering my first box, discovering deals or coupons, going through Urthbox reviews by customers, and everything else I thought was important to share.
The UrthBox website is easy to navigate and informal. They list all their different box options and even show some example boxes right on the homepage. A list of all the possible products that may come in your box is provided on the homepage as well, like juices, chips, and so on. They share anything else you’d need to know about their boxes, contact information, shipping questions, and more in their FAQ.
Like many other subscription boxes, UrthBox has their own online store called Urth Market. However, many Urthbox complaints were connected to their services. I found this through an FAQ question they had about redeeming points. This market offers a ton of different items. You can buy snacks, beverages, home decor, skincare, beauty products, products for pets, and even more! I was surprised by the large selection of items, and they have giveaways here as well.
Urthbox Review – The Offer
UrthBox has four different sizes of snack boxes that you can choose from. There’s a mini box with 6+ snacks for $19.99, a small box with 12+ snacks for $29.99, a medium box with 18+ snacks for $39.99, and a large box with 25+ snacks for $49.99 per month. They also offer free shipping to the US.
If you want to save a little money, you can choose either an UrthBox coupon or a longer subscription term. You’ll save $10 if you choose a three-month subscription and $30 if you subscribe for six months. They have one final subscription box called the office box made for the workplace. It costs a hefty $200 per month but has 100+ full-size products and has enough snacks for 5-10 employees.
They also let you choose from a couple of different options in case you have a special diet or preferred eating habits. You can choose classic, gluten-free, vegan, or the diet option. However, they can’t combine these options, such as a gluten-free + vegan box, which would be nice.
I looked through an UrthBox large box review (the biggest size available) and was amazed by the tremendous amount of snacks it comes with. However, I still decided to go with the medium size box because I wanted to try a good amount of snacks, but not spend a ton of money on it in case I didn’t end up liking it.
UrthBox Coupon Deals & Payment
As for coupons, UrthBox is currently offering $10 off your first snack box subscription! This coupon wasn’t hard to find, it was advertised right on the main website and automatically was applied to my order when I clicked on it. You can also get another $10 off for your first Urth Market purchase, you just need to visit the store page (I found the link in the FAQ), and a box should pop up with the offer.
Not only are they offering $10 off, but they also have a promotion to receive a free bonus box with your first subscription. I couldn’t find information about what comes in the bonus box, but that’s fine because it’s still an extra surprise box. If you choose to try out the mini box, this comes to only $9.99 for your first month plus a free extra box! These promotions qualify when you purchase a gift subscription as well.
Another way to save money and possibly even get free products is with their points system. When purchasing from the Urth Market, you earn anywhere from 10% to 30% of your purchase back in UrthBucks depending on which promotion they have going on. You can then go back and spend these credits in the store.
Other ways to earn points include posting about UrthBox on Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, Facebook, and inviting friends to join. These points are managed through the UrthBox website. Once you want to spend the points you accumulate, you have to send them an email so they can convert your points to Urth Market.
You can learn more about this in the FAQ. While this seems like a bit of a hassle, it might still be worth it if the points add up to get free products. To find how many points you have and earn more, you just go to “my account” in the top right corner of the webpage.
UrthBox Reviews on Yelp
As I always do before purchasing any subscription box, I searched through reviews to see what came in previous boxes for others and what they thought about it. The large Urthbox review was my favorite to look through because I could see all the variety of different snacks they’ve offered in the past.
I’ve found that Yelp is a great place to discover reviews, so I’m glad I was able to find some on there as well. However, UrthBox Yelp reviews varied in opinions as well. It seems like there’s an equal amount of negative and positive thoughts. With all these differing opinions and experiences, I figured it’ll just be best to try it out myself.
UrthBox Complaints & Issues
Unfortunately, I did find a few Urthbox reviews that were quite negative. I noticed that a common problem for people was cancelling their subscriptions or their order taking a long time to ship. Some also mentioned their snacks were stale.
I stumbled across a very negative UrthBox free trial review and researched a bit more about the following. It seems that, in the past, they offered a free trial and charged people for a six-month subscription after the trial was over. They put these terms in fine print that rarely anybody reads, which is a bit deceiving and I can understand why people were upset. However, they seem to have fixed this issue because their subscription terms are very clear now.
Wondering how to cancel UrthBox subscription, I found that you must send them a cancellation email before the first of the month you want to be canceled. So, if you want to cancel June, you must email them by May 31st (or whichever date comes before the 1st). This is because their monthly subscriptions renew on the first of each month.
First Urthbox Unboxing
The checkout process was quick and easy. My vegan box was on the way soon after I ordered! As mentioned earlier, I was shipped a free Urthbox along with the regular one. Turns out, it’s just a replica of the first box – which means double the snacks! This was awesome since I expected just a small gift. Both boxes were shipped as medium-sized brown boxes with the Urthbox logo on them, and both of them arrived at the same time.
I was a little disappointed that they didn’t include an information sheet like most subscription boxes do so I could see more details on each snack. However, that’s not that big of a deal as I can just look up most of the details online. Since I got two boxes, I received a total of 38 items (including the boxes).
It also came with a bunch of wine vouchers for Naked wine and a $10 gift card towards your first Urthbox order.
There were so many snacks in my Urthbox vegan box, I could hardly keep track! I’ll be reviewing each one below.
Enlightened Roasted Broad Bean Crisps
The flavor of these was very strange. At first, I thought I liked them, but after eating a few more they started to taste weird and kept getting worse.
They were pretty salty as well. I loved the texture, however, they were very crunchy – similar to corn nuts! I just wish the flavor was better.
Retail value: $2.99
Honcho Ranch Flavored Chips
These chips are my favorite snack from this month’s Urthbox review! They tasted just like ranch-flavored Doritos, but they’re completely vegan! I liked them so much that I went online to see where they sold them near me so I could indulge more. Thankfully, I found a couple of stores.
Retail value: $1.29
Maya Kaimal Naan Chips
These naan-inspired chips were pretty yummy! The bag recommends eating these by themselves or eating them with your favorite dip.
I didn’t have any sauce or dip around to try them with, however, they’re delicious by themselves as well.
Retail value: $2.99
Hometown Bagel Chicago Style Bagel Chips
These are another chip that’s based off food – this time it’s bagels! These were good, although I liked the Naan chips better.
They were amazing dipped in some vegan chive cream cheese.
Retail value: $3.99
Svelte Banana Creme Organic Protein Shake
I don’t typically enjoy protein shakes or drinks as you’ll notice in my future Urthbox reviews, so I gave this to my boyfriend since he drinks them regularly. He loved this one! So I decided to try it as well, even though I expected not to like it. It turned out to be delicious!
It tasted like a banana milkshake! There was no chalky taste, which is what I expect from protein drinks because each one that I’ve tried has been. There’s 11g of protein in the entire thing, which is pretty good for such a small, delicious drink. Since it’s vegan, it’s made with soy milk and plant-based protein rather than whey protein.
Retail value: $8.70 for a pack of four
Vegan Rob’s Kombuchabar
I don’t like kombucha very much, and there are only a select few flavors that I can tolerate. So, as predicted, I didn’t like this bar too much either. Now they have the chance to make up for it, if they’re reading my Urthbox reviews. Jokes aside, I love the health benefits of it!
It’s a little sweet from the banana which is yummy, I just couldn’t get over the kombucha aftertaste. It was even stranger in food-form rather than an actual kombucha drink. Including the ones in my free Urthbox, I got four of these in total. Lucky me! Two other people tried them and didn’t like them either, so maybe it’s not just me.
Retail value: $11.37 for a pack of 3
Nutribar Health Brand Date & Peanut Snack Bar
During my Urthbox review, this turned out pretty yummy considering the wholesome ingredients. It contains dates, peanuts, sunflower seeds, and raisins. However, I’d prefer to eat this as a trail mix or other form of food rather than this condensed bar of them.
The texture isn’t that great, either. It’s a little mushy and weird.
Retail value: $8.99 for a pack of 5
Saratoga Chips Original Kettle Chip
According to many UrthBox reviews, these are apparently America’s first kettle chip! They’re made of three ingredients only – potatoes, sunflower oil, and himalayan sea salt. This is fantastic, as I hate putting unknown and unnecessary ingredients into my body!
Even though they have such few ingredients, they’re still pretty yummy! They weren’t too salty and had just the right flavor for a kettle chip. Sadly, they aren’t sold on the west coast or I’d buy them again.
Retail value: Unknown, only available for sale in the North East USA
Rescue Plus Stress Complex Tablets in Mixed Berries
This dietary supplement tablet easily dissolves in any drink. Typically it’s mixed with water, but it would be yummy in certain types of tea as well! This one is the mixed berries flavor and it’s supposed to reduce stress. It also contains vitamins to help reach your daily nutrition needs.
I’m not sure how well I’m able to critique this product because I don’t have too much stress in my life. I have my moments, but I wouldn’t say I’m a stressed person because I’m able to balance myself out. Still, UrthBox Yelp reviews say that it did have a small role in relieving them from stress. I didn’t notice any effects on my mood after I drank a cup of this, but it still tasted delicious and the vitamins are a huge plus! The effects might kick in after using it daily.
Retail value: $14.97 on various vitamin store websites
The Soulful Project Oatmeal in Blueberry Almond
I appreciated the inclusion of something that can be made as an actual, wholesome meal. I had this for breakfast with some banana slices and it was delicious.
The ingredients are awesome and clean, plus there’s only a little sugar added. Note, however, that this isn’t one of the Urthbox gluten free snacks.
Retail value: $12.95 for a pack of 6 on their website
Swish Fresh Breath Powder
This a product that gets rid of bad breath and optimizes pH levels at the same time. I got the spearmint flavor, which is sugar-free and made of natural flavors. To use it, you just drop a powder package into your mouth and swish it around. You’ll spit it out after about 10 seconds.
These little sticks are portable and perfect for long days outside the house when you cannot brush your teeth.
Retail value: $9.99 for a 30-stick pack
Glee Wintergreen Gum
I’ve tried this gum before and it’s great! Many UrthBox reviews on Yelp have praised this company for including this item in most boxes. This box is a small sample of the wintergreen flavor. It had only two pieces, but this was still appreciated because I love this gum.
There’s no sugar added and the flavor lasts a pretty long time. It’s sweetened with xylitol (a sugar-free sweetener). The pieces are fairly small, so I’d say you need at least two to get enough chewing power.
Retail value: $11.95 for a case of 12 boxes with 16 gum pieces each
Sencha Naturals Tropical Mango Green Tea Mints
Urthbox really wants to make sure your breath doesn’t stink with all these minty products for your breath! Still, you need to have many items so I can make this large UrthBox review.
These delicious mints are made with whole leaf matcha green tea. They also include mango and citrus extracts, as well as peppermint oil. They’re sweetened with sorbitol and stevia rather than sugar. This package contains 40 small, leaf-shaped mints.
These were more of a candy than a mint to me because they were so sweet and flavorful. Mango is the main flavor with a bit of a minty aftertaste. It didn’t feel like it would do much for bad breath. Because of this, I prefer spearmint or wintermint flavors because they always do the job successfully.
Retail value: $3.20
Parma! Vegan Parmesan Cheese
I’m glad they included this condiment sample because I’m always looking to try new vegan cooking and topping alternatives. I put this on top of some yummy chickpea pasta – one of the things I got in my Degustabox – and it was delicious! It tasted very similar to non-vegan parmesan cheese.
The ingredients are completely natural with just raw organic walnuts, nutritional yeast, sunflower seeds, and himalayan crystal salt. I had to look up these ingredients because they didn’t come on the package, but this was an easy find. My UrthBox reviews will continue to have a positive tone if they send me more items like this one!
Retail price: $6.19 for a 3.5-oz bottle or $9.99 for a 7-oz bottle
Treasure Trove Crunch Sesame Seeds Snacks
These sesame seed snacks are made of sesame seeds, rice syrup, and cane sugar only. I must say, however, that I didn’t like them that much. They were very sticky and tasted bland. Contrary to what their name suggests, these weren’t crunchy at all. I haven’t researched this topic, but maybe the Urthbox class action was because of this item? *just kidding*
Retail value: $29.80 for a 12-count variety pack on Amazon
Torie & Howard Chewie Fruities
Each box came with two full-size packages of these in two different flavors. One was assorted flavors and the other was pomegranate and nectarine.
They’re organic, gluten-free, non-GMO, and don’t have any artificial flavors or colors. Chewy candies aren’t my favorite, so most of these were given away. The sugary flavors tasted very artificial, and they had a ton of sugar as well, which I try to avoid.
Retail value: $3.99 for a 4-oz pouch
Sahale Snacks Pomegranate Vanilla Flavored Cashews
Considering their name, I really expected these to be delicious. However, they weren’t tasty at all. Pomegranate flavor doesn’t mix well with cashews, so the taste of these was extremely strange. This brand has various other flavors available, so maybe those are better. You can still avoid wondering how to cancel your UrthBox subscription.
Retail value: $19.52 for a mixed variety 12-pack of 1.5-oz bags
Yummi Bears Organics
I haven’t had gummy bears in forever! I honestly didn’t like them too much before I went vegan. These ones are pretty tasty though, and they’re great for your health! They’re a dietary supplement that contains fish-free omega vitamins, which are harder to get if you follow a vegan diet. They do contain a little sugar to make them taste good, but I would say the health benefits outweigh the negatives of this. If you really enjoyed these, the package has a coupon at the top to save $5 on the full-size.
Retail value: $13.99-$20.99 for a tub of 90 bears
That comes to the conclusion of this Urthbox review of everything I received for June! The only complaint I have is that a lot of their sweet products contained cane sugar, which is annoying if this is something you’re trying to avoid. Most of them don’t have too much, but some (like the gummy candies) have a ton. I would have also preferred less candies and breath products. It would be nice if they had a variety of each type of snack and even more non-perishable meals like the oatmeal.
- Excellent value for money
- Rewards points system
- Great box choices
- Try out a variety of different brands and products
- Long shipping time
