Ipsy July 2018 Review + Unboxing
Ipsy is a budget-friendly beauty and skincare subscription with a unique trait – their products are shipped in cute, reusable makeup bags every month! This is one of the various reasons Ipsy is on our list of favorite beauty subscription boxes. It’s also very affordable at only $10 per month. Their customization feature allows you to choose which type of products you want to receive.
This Ipsy review shares what came inside my July glam bag as well as similar subscriptions you might enjoy and savings opportunities I’ve come across.
Shipping + Packaging
Unfortunately, my July Ipsy shipment was delayed quite a bit due to some payment delays and mail forwarding issues. However, it ended up working out, and I finally received it in early August. It came in their typical bright pink bubble mailer. Inside was my Ipsy glam bag, which was a pretty baby-blue color.
There was also a small handout about this month’s products. This also highlights the 30% cash back deal they have for items purchased in their store.
In total, I received five products to test out. Two of these items were full-size!
Elizabeth Mott Tapered Blending Brush
Surprisingly, my glam bag came with a makeup brush! You saw in my main Ipsy review that I got one in my June Ipsy bag, so I wasn’t expecting to see another so soon. I requested makeup brushes as an item I’d like to receive the most, and I’m glad they listened to this request.
This makeup brush is from Elizabeth Mott and is a tapered blending brush for eyeshadow. It’s very soft and thick. I’ll be able to use this for a while!

First Aid Beauty Pure Skin Face Cleanser
The First Aid brand has a few fairly popular products that I’d wanted to try for a while but never got around to it. I’m glad I got this product in my Ipsy – I’m always excited to try new facial cleansers! This one is safe for sensitive skin and advertises that it removes surface oils, makeup, and dirt. I’ve never discovered a facial cleanser that removes makeup entirely, so I was skeptical about this promise.
When I put this to the test, it wasn’t able to completely remove all my makeup. This wasn’t a downer because I expected it. Otherwise, it did a great job of cleansing my skin. My skin felt very clean and soft afterward. The one-ounce size is a fairly large sample and will last me at least a few weeks since it doesn’t take much to wash your face.
Retail value: $20 full-size (5 oz) at Sephora
PureHeats by Nature Village Pore Clear Black Charcoal Peel-Off Mask
I have been looking everywhere for a charcoal peel mask. Most charcoal masks I encounter are wash-off rather than peel-off.
This one is a little harsh when peeling off, but not too bad compared to the intense ones that I’ve seen. It doesn’t pull out much from my pores, but it does make my face feel tight and clean.
Retail value: $26 full-size (3.5 oz) at Ulta
Eyeko London Skinny Liquid Eyeliner
It’s surprising how many Eyeko eyeliner products I’ve received from various beauty subscription boxes. Even so, I’m not too disappointed by this because I enjoy these eyeliners. They don’t last forever, so I’m always happy to receive more. It’d only be a problem if they came in every box. I love this pen because it’s simple to draw winged eyeliner with it.
Furthermore, I like the shade of black (some eyeliners are supposed to be black but look grey or blue).

Sundays Nail Polish
I love this color of nail polish! It’s an adorable baby blue color that matches the glam bag. Nail polishes aren’t a very common item in beauty subscription boxes, so I was happy to receive one at last.
This one is a 10-free, non-toxic, vegan, and cruelty-free formula. The color looks beautiful on my nails and lasts a fairly long time before chipping. I also really liked the minimalistic design of the packaging and bottle.
Retail value: $18
Since Ipsy is already so inexpensive, there aren’t too many coupons or deals for the actual subscription. Their shop, however, has fantastic savings opportunities! Depending on which brands you’re interested in, they offer various cashback deals (typically 15% or 20% cash back). They even show the actual price you’ll be paying after you get the cash back.
They also have limited-time deals on specific products, which only last a few days. Some of these deals are amazing! You’ll also receive $5 off with your first purchase in their shop.
It seems like there are too many options for beauty and skincare subscription boxes. A few others that we love are Birchbox, Glossybox, and Boxycharm. Birchbox is the same price as Ipsy, while the other two are $21 per month but typically have larger samples and more full-size items. Boxycharm boxes have all full-size products!
If you’re finding it hard to choose, we have a few detailed sources that might help you out. For one, our beauty subscription boxes webpage outlines the beauty boxes that we believe provide the best value and products. You can also check out our reviews for these other boxes to see what we thought about them and compare.
