Glossybox May 2018 Review + Unboxing

Glossybox is a fun subscription box that’s perfect for anybody who enjoys discovering new beauty, skincare, and similar products. Each month brings a unique gift to open! The subscription box costs $21 per month with free shipping, or you can save a little money by opting for longer-term subscriptions (for instance, 6-month Glossybox subscription).
Before I get into too much detail, here’s a spoiler alert – I liked this May box even more than the April one that I shared in my first Glossybox review. I still enjoyed the previous box though, so that goes to show how fantastic this one is.
Shipping + Packaging
I was charged early in the month, and my box had been shipped soon after. They sent the tracking information to my email so I could know precisely when it arrived, which was just a few days later. Tracking information is beneficial because I live in an apartment and don’t check my mail daily.
Right off the bat, I was startled when I pulled my Glossybox out of the shipping box. Instead of the typical pink box that the products usually come in, this month’s box was bright yellow with a cute little airplane design on the top! There was also a statement in pink lettering at the top saying “eat, sleep, travel, repeat.”
It turns out this was a limited edition “jet-setter” box that’s sold out now. This was a fun switch up from their conventional Glossybox design. I received two full-size items and four deluxe samples!
The following paragraphs will include my thoughts on each product I received.
Product Reviews
John Masters Organics Lavender + Avocado Conditioner
Lavender and Avocado sound like a strange scent pairing, but this ended up smelling delicious! I love that every product coming from this brand is organic. Unfortunately, this conditioner didn’t do too much moisturizing for my dry hair. I noticed the faint smell of it leftover, which was nice because most scents don’t last in my hair.
Full-size (7-oz) retail value: $22
Josh Masters Organics Evening Primrose Shampoo
This shampoo is meant for dry hair just like mine! It combines primrose oil with proteins and plant oils for hydration power. Like the conditioner, this one smells delicious as well.
I wanted to love this product, but I honestly didn’t notice a change in my dry hair with the use of this either. I’m glad I got to try them out though because I’m always on the lookout for the perfect shampoo and conditioner for my fine, dry hair. It’s hard to find samples without having to buy full sizes.
Full-size retail value: $16 (6-oz)
Tree Hut Protecting Daily Moisturizer
I’ve forgotten to pick up another face moisturizer after I recently ran out of my go-to product. However, I may not need to anymore! My skin can get pretty dry at times, but this product does well at moisturizing. The best part is that it contains SPF 30 to protect my face throughout the day, which is always appreciated because I never remember to put on sunscreen.
A little goes a long way meaning this full-size bottle will last me a reasonable amount of time. I’ve been using it for about four days in a row, and it hasn’t irritated my skin at all. As long as this keeps up, it will be my daily moisturizer until I run out!
Full-size (1.5-oz) retail value: $14.99
DHC Skincare Deep Cleansing Oil
This product might not be the best for people with oily skin or easily clogged pores since it’s oil-based. For me, however, it’s fantastic! I regularly moisturize my face with coconut oil to make my skin glow, and this gives very similar results. It’s also excellent at removing makeup (which I also typically use coconut oil for).
The best part of this product is that when you rinse it off, it doesn’t leave any residue behind. It simply turns into a milk-like structure that’s easy to rinse or wipe off. If you’ve ever tried getting an oil off your face, you’ll strongly appreciate this ease of removal. It’s olive oil-based and doesn’t have a million unknown ingredients as some skin products do. The bottle is pretty big considering how little you need to use for each wash, so this will last me a long time as well!
Full-size retail value: $28 (6.7 fl oz)
Proenza Schouler Arizona Eau De Parfum
Fragrance samples are one of the products I dread in subscription boxes. I’m very picky about perfumes, so 98% of the time I hate them. This one, however, is a dream! It smells wonderful. The scent lasts for hours, and it doesn’t feel stale later in the day.
The sample is in a 0.17-oz mini bottle with an actual cap rather than those annoying tiny vials that most fragrance samples come in. I always manage to break or spill those somehow. I considered buying this perfume once I run out of the sample, but I was devastated to see the hefty $100 price tag of a full-size. I’ll have to make this one last. This means the sample bottle is worth $10.
Full-size retail value: $100 (1.7 fl oz)
Laritzy Cosmetics Shade Stix in Aloha
I’m glad this was the only makeup item I received. Don’t get me wrong – I love makeup, but there’s only so many products you can have before it becomes overwhelming. I think I’ve reached that point now. I’m able to get much more use out of hair and skincare products.
As for this shade stick, it’s charming and easy to use. I adore the color, and it adds a gorgeous bronze glow to my face. It’s easy to blend in, and the effects were noticeable for hours!
Bronzers are something I don’t have a vast collection of, so this product was much appreciated. This will last forever because it’s a full-size item!
Full-size (0.3 oz) retail value: $24
