Glossybox December 2018 Review + Unboxing
Beauty subscription boxes are one of the most common types on the market. They’re a brilliant concept: you get to try new products without paying the full price on them! Glossybox, one of the most popular beauty subscription boxes, provides deluxe and full-size products for just $21 per month. They customize your monthly boxes toward your beauty preferences, so you’re more likely to get products you’ll love.
This review shares my December Glossybox unboxing, savings opportunities, similar beauty subscription boxes that you might also enjoy, and more!
Shipping + Unboxing
My December box arrived around the middle of the month. First off, I was surprised by the gorgeous silver metallic box. I’ve received a few nice limited-edition boxes from them before, but nothing stood out as much as this month’s box. One of the products inside even had metallic packaging.
If this wasn’t enough to make the box stand out, I received all full-sized items as well! I’ve never experienced this from Glossybox—they advertise a couple full-size or deluxe-size items. That being said, I’ll be reviewing each product below.
Copper-Crane Radiance Mask
Although I usually prefer to receive more skincare and haircare products rather than makeup, I actually liked that this box contained mostly makeup! This radiance face mask was the only skincare item. I love face masks—this one worked pretty well! It made my skin feel clean and refreshed without drying it out too much.
Retail value: $45
Jafra Royal Lipstick
I don’t wear lipsticks too often, but this one is a great addition to my collection for when I do want to wear it. It’s a pretty, pinkish nude shade.
I really liked the formula because it doesn’t feel heavy on my lips like a lot of lipsticks do. Although it doesn’t last as long as liquid lipsticks do, it does last a pretty good amount of time.
Retail value: $16
BECCA Lip Gloss
One thing I’ve noticed with this subscription is that I don’t see too many brands that I recognize in my boxes. Although this allows me to try new brands, I definitely get excited when I see a familiar one. BECCA is one popular brand that I love, and this box provided a full-size lip gloss from them!
The packaging was metallic (to match the box) and the actual lip gloss is a light shimmery nude color. It was gorgeous, and it’s high quality! It also lasts a long time without being too sticky on my lips. The shade looks perfect with a natural makeup look.
Retail value: $22
Kaleido Cosmetics Highlighter
Highlighters are one of my favorite makeup products, so I’m open to trying out as many as I can. This one was a liquid highlighter. I usually prefer these because they’re easier to carry around, easy to blend in, last a long time, and a little goes a long way.
This shade is a little tan, so it’s more of a bronzing highlighter for me. Although I have to be more careful than when I use this compared with lighter colored highlighters, it looks great when done right.
Retail value: $17
LUNA by LUNA Translucent Powder
The final product I received is this translucent powder from LUNA by LUNA.
It’s white, so I have to be careful when applying it to make sure I don’t look like a ghost. It works really well, though, and helps my makeup last much longer.
Retail value: $22
Glossybox usually offers numerous coupons and deals to save money on your subscription. These always seem to be changing. Because of this, I’ve included the coupons they’re offering during December and January below.
HOLIDAY: 30% off gift subscriptions
DEC25: 25% off 3-month or longer subscriptions
GB25: 25% off all subscriptions
GBOXFB: 20% off 3-month subscriptions
In addition, you can review each month’s products to earn rewards points! These add up pretty quickly and can be redeemed for beauty products from their partner website.
Similar Beauty Boxes
If you’re interested in Glossybox, you’re probably interested in more beauty subscription boxes since there are so many to choose from. I subscribe to plenty more, so I’ll share a few of my favorites and how they compare with Glossybox.
Ipsy + Birchbox
Glossybox might seem a little spendy for mostly samples and a couple full-size products. So, if samples are fine with you, you might prefer cheaper boxes like Ipsy and Birchbox. They cost just $10 per month and provide mostly smaller sample sizes. Although you won’t get as much product, you’ll still get to try out new brands and products for a cheap price!
This next beauty box contains only full-size products while costing the same as Glossybox. Their box values are always over $100! It’s a great subscription to supplement your makeup collection (although they provide occasional skincare and haircare products as well). Not only is the value high, but they provide all kinds of name-brand products. Check out my Boxycharm reviews to see what kind of products they include!
Another beauty subscription box I’ve been loving is Julep! They provide monthly boxes with full-size products all from their own brand. It’s a little more spendy at $24.99 per month, but it’s worth it because of the great product quality you receive. My Julep reviews share how you can try your first box for free!
