Degustabox Surprise

Do you adore food but hate going grocery shopping? I’m in the same boat, especially living in Los Angeles where grocery stores always seem to be packed. I was ecstatic when I discovered the existence of the Degustabox subscription and other food subscription services. Degustabox provides subscribers a monthly box full of snacks and other non-perishable food products. Obviously, these services don’t replace grocery store trips, but you can save some shopping time knowing there are a few snacks or a meal at home. Plus, it’s an exciting way to try out new food. This first Degustabox review will outline my experience ordering my first box, the saving opportunities I came across, and everything else in-between.

First Impressions

Degustabox Review - Website impressions

First and foremost, I found the Degustabox website very easy to browse through and navigate. They don’t overload it with information, but there’s still enough to provide you with everything you need to know. Their prices are laid out right away, and there are no hidden fees. Plus, they provide a helpful page with a list of all their past boxes and pictures of the products.

My monthly Degustabox reviews will include my opinions on how I liked the products, if the service delivered what was promised, if it’s a good value, and so on. However, if you’re looking for hints on what might come in your box, their social media profiles provide occasional sneak-peeks and spoilers for their upcoming boxes. They also provide some recipes using products that come in their boxes.

What Does Degustabox Offer?

Degustabox Review 2018 - Offer

Degustabox sells monthly snack boxes for $19.99 per month. Everything inside is a surprise, but you should expect to receive 10-14 products. It’s a recurring subscription that bills you on the 19th of every month. Shipping is free for USA subscribers, which includes 48 states except for Hawaii and Alaska.

However, a negative quality about this subscription is that they don’t offer the option to customize your box with diet preferences, allergies, or anything else. My monthly Degustabox reviews will show all products I receive in my box and my thoughts on how this subscription would be for those with food allergies and diet restrictions. However, if you have any dietary restrictions, you’re bound to receive some products that you can’t eat. They do provide a variety of different types of products in their boxes though, so you might still subscribe to see if it’s worth it!

If you’d like an affordable box that offers the ability to customize your box, I’d check out Urthbox! They offer healthy snack boxes that can be totally vegan, gluten-free, or even diet-themed (with calorie-conscious snacks). There’s also a few different box size options to fit anyone’s budget, ranging from $19.99 – $49.99. My Urthbox reviews detail their promotion for a free bonus box PLUS $10 off with your first subscription.

How to Cancel Degustabox

You can cancel your subscription at any time by sending them a message through the contact form on their website. However, you’ll need to do so before the 15th of the month. I tried to find the Degustabox phone number to see if it’s possible to call them and cancel, but I couldn’t find anything on their website. I found this a little strange because companies always have a customer service phone number. However, this is probably just because they’re based in a different country.

Degustabox Review - Information Sheet

Payment Options & Degustabox Coupon Savings

Degustabox accepts Visa, Mastercard, or American Express debit or credit cards when it comes to paying for your subscription. As for coupons, there were a couple of deals I was able to find. In addition to the coupons I’m about to list, I’ll be including any future deals that I find in each monthly Degustabox review.

This month, I used their $10 off (half off) coupon that was advertised on their website. This made the first box cost just $9.99, which is a great deal for the number of products that come with it. After I subscribed, I also found an even better deal on Groupon for $7.99 for the first month. I’m not sure how long these deals will be going on for, so make sure to check them out as soon as you can!

My First Box!

I placed my order at the end of April and received my first box in mid-May. It was shipped in a medium-sized cardboard box with Degustabox branding all over it. The shipping was free since I’m a Degustabox USA subscriber.

Underneath, my products were placed compactly in the box. They did a great job of fitting everything inside!

Degustabox review - Products

Degustabox Review - May 2018 Products

In total, I got 10 different products in my Degustabox.

In total, I received ten different products (technically eleven because they included two of one snack). I enjoyed most of them, but as I figured, there were a few that I wasn’t able to eat or didn’t like. These next few paragraphs will provide a more detailed Degustabox review, describing each product I received.

Explore Cuisine Organic Chickpea Fusilli

I’ll start off with one of my favorite products in the box. I’ve tried a bunch of different pasta types from this brand, and I’ve loved them all! They’re healthy, delicious, and gluten-free! This one has much more protein than typical wheat pasta because it’s made with chickpeas. I cooked it with marinara sauce and some vegan cheese, but you can really make any yummy pasta meal with it. All in all, I think this is my favorite item from this Degustabox review.

Post Grape-Nuts Trail Mix Crunch Cereal

This cereal is really yummy! Unfortunately, it’s not gluten-free, which is a diet I try to stick with the majority of the time. My skin looks better, I have far more energy, and my body feels better overall when I do. However, this is a pretty healthy cereal otherwise, so I’m fine with indulging every once in a while. It’s made with granola, cranberries, puffed barley, and a natural vanilla flavor. Ultimately, I must say this belongs to the better part of the Degustabox offer.

Retail price: $4.99

Cello Whisps Cheddar Cheese Crisps

I noticed in the information sheet that this product is back due to high demand, so apparently, it’s a very popular product. Unfortunately, they reminded me of Cheez-its, which I hate. However, if you’re a fan of them, you’ll love these Cello cheddar cheese crisps.

Retail price: $3.99

Deep River Snacks Sweet Maui Onion Potato Chips

These chips were very yummy! They’re certified gluten-free, non-GMO, nut-free, vegan, and kosher. I liked them so much that I wish it came with a full-size bag instead of this little one. It’s probably a good thing it didn’t though – I’d eat the entire thing! At first, I thought the sweet flavor mixed with onion would be a weird combination, but they took me by surprise. Degustabox offer is all about variety which made me happy because I’m not reluctant to try out new things.

Karma Probiotics Water in Blueberry Lemonade

Degustabox review - Karma Water

This water tastes like a blueberry muffin in liquid form! I was surprised by how delicious it was because it didn’t even have that much sugar added to it. Plus, it’s super healthy because it has probiotics, which do wonders for your health. In my opinion, this water is much yummier than most kombuchas I’ve tried (which is another common source of probiotics). I’d definitely buy this if I see it in stores and I had to mention this in my Degustabox review. I wouldn’t have tried it otherwise so I’m glad that I got the chance to do so thanks to Degustabox.

Retail price: $2.29

Zollipops Zaffy Taffy The Clean Teeth Taffy

Taffy is commonly known as something that’s not great for your teeth, but this one is supposed to help improve them! It’s sugar-free, gluten-free, nut-free, dairy-free, vegan, and kosher. Plus, it’s made with natural flavors and colors. These are supposed to raise your pH, or in other words, neutralize the acid in your mouth. This reduces the risk of tooth decay and helps teeth remineralize. You might not think these would taste good with these benefits, but they’re actually pretty yummy! It tasted very similar to regular taffy.

At first, I wasn’t really happy that I only received four little taffy samples and was looking for the Degustabox phone number so I can complain. Jokes aside, they included a coupon for a free full-size package, as well as a buy-one-get-one-free coupon! I’m not sure why they didn’t just include the full bag in the box. Maybe because they would have melted during shipping?! This is slightly annoying because I’ll have to go to the store to use these coupons. Oh well!

Retail price: $3.99 for a 3oz package

Goya Medium Salsa

Another thing I loved is that they include a few items you can actually use for real meals rather than just snacks. I wish they sent more products like this in the future Degustabox subscription boxes. Snacks are great, but they don’t last long for me. This Goya salsa was delicious! It contained the perfect amount of spice so I’m glad they chose the medium flavor for my box. It’s a fairly large bottle so it will last for a few uses!

Retail price: $2.29

Goya Maria Cookies

Strangely, these cookies are the same brand as the salsa. My first thought about these was that they looked like a vanilla Oreo without the cream inside, and that’s very similar to how they tasted!

 Degustabox Review - Goya Cookies

They’re just a simple, yummy sugar cookie. I didn’t notice anything special about them. A pack of these costs less than $1, so they’re very affordable and you won’t need a Degustabox coupon.

Degustabox review - Barbecue Sauce

Retail price: $0.89

Rufus Teague Honey Sweet Barbecue Sauce

I’m not a fan of barbecue sauce. It’s just one of those things I’ve never liked. However, I figured I would still try this one just in case, but I didn’t like it either. I gave it to my best friend and she said it was delicious, so I’m sure it’d be yummy for anybody who enjoys barbecue sauce. It’s a huge bottle too!

Retail price: $4.99

Indiana Kettlecorn Popcorn

I’ll wrap up this Degustabox review of the products I received with my favorite snack in the box. Kettlecorn is my weakness! If it didn’t have so much sugar, I’d eat it daily. This one was so good! It was the perfect combination of salty and sweet. They included two small bags of it rather than just one. So no matter how bad I try not to eat that much sugar, somehow it keeps coming back into my life.

Retail price: $3.29 for a 7oz full-size bag

Is Degustabox worth it?
All in all, I had an alright experience with my first Degustabox. The full value of my box was worth a little over $25, which I’d say is a bit low compared to most subscription boxes since it regularly costs $20 + tax per month. Plus, the value of products I actually used was under $20 (less than the regular subscription price) because a couple of them I didn’t like or couldn’t eat. So, in reality, this subscription might not be worth it.

One More Chance

That being said, I’m still going to try one more month to see if next month is better. Although I’m not the biggest fan so far, Degustabox is still a versatile subscription that would be an excellent choice for anyone who enjoys snacks and food (without specific dietary needs). It would also make an impressive gift or just a treat for yourself. I’ll be posting another Degustabox review for my June box, so make sure to check it out to find out more about the products they send, as well as my overall opinion of this subscription service.
