Boxycharm April 2019 Review + Unboxing

It’s hard to find an affordable beauty subscription box that provides quality products that you can use over and over again. Boxycharm is one of the only exceptions! They include 4–5 full-size beauty products (mostly makeup) in their monthly subscription boxes, all for just $21 each month. These are high quality and include a surprising number of name-brand items.
I’ve subscribed for a couple of months now and have been beyond pleased. Check out this month’s review to see what came in my box, the savings opportunities, and some similar subscription boxes you might also enjoy!
Shipping + Unboxing
As usual, shipping was quick, and my April Boxycharm arrived near the beginning of the month in their signature black box. Inside, I found five products plus an extra small sample!
I’ll be sharing each below, in addition to a few similar beauty boxes when compared to Boxycharm.
Product Reviews
PUR The Complexion Authority Festival Palette
The gorgeous palettes have always been my favorite in previous Boxycharm boxes. It’s impressive that they include one in nearly every box! This eyeshadow palette is from PUR and contains 12 gorgeous, bright colors.
It’s perfect for spring and summer. They’re pigmented and easy to blend. Another great palette to add to the collection!
Retail value: $36
Luxue The Summer Daze 3pc Brush Set
This three-piece brush set is perfect to pair with the PUR palette. It came with one larger brush and two eyeshadow brushes. The larger one is a contouring brush. I’ve tried Luxie brushes before and never been disappointed. These worked great as well!
Retail value: $28
Steve Laurant Lip Gloss
I liked this lip gloss! It’s a peachy nude color with shimmer.
The light shade looks perfect with a natural makeup look. This gloss feels great on my lips and isn’t too heavy.
Retail value: $22
Artist Couture Diamond Glow Powder
This is another favorite in this month’s box. It’s a powdered highlighter, which I had yet to try out. I always use compacted or liquid highlighters. This version is messy but very effective once you get the hang of applying it.
A little goes a very long way. It’s also all-natural and cruelty-free!
Retail value: $27
Beauty For Real Liquid Eyeliner
I never truly enjoy eyeliners in subscription boxes, they rarely ever get used. This one worked well, but who knows when I’ll use it.
Even so, it’s a good value, and the other lovely products make up for this. I’ll probably gift it to a friend.
Retail value: $19
Saving Money with Boxycharm
Nearly every subscription box has coupons available! However, Boxycharm doesn’t offer coupons that directly save money on the subscription. This is understandable—you’re already getting such a good deal.
However, they do have a deal for a free gift with your first box! This gift changes every month and is only available by signing up through a referral Boxycharm link. They also have a giveaways page on their website, as well as a page for promotions with the stores they partner with. You can find anywhere from 20% to 40% off for the brands in the April box.
The only way you can save money on the actual subscription is by subscribing for one of the longer-term plans. The 3-month plan costs $19.66 per month, the 6-month plan costs $19.33 per month, and the 12-month plan costs $19.25 per month.
You do have to pay upfront for these, but it’s a better deal if you already know you’ll be subscribing that long.
Boxycharm vs. the Top Beauty Subscription Boxes
As you probably know already, there are a ton of beauty subscription boxes to choose from. That’s why I always include this portion of the review to compare the featured box with other top choices.
$10 Beauty Boxes
There are a few sample beauty boxes that cost $10 per month. The most popular options include Ipsy, Birchbox, and Sephora Play. In these, you’ll receive 4–5 sample-sized products rather than the full sizes you find with Boxycharm.
Ipsy Plus!
In addition to their $10 beauty bags, Ipsy released a brand new subscription option with full-size products. This costs $25 per month and contains 4–5 full-size beauty products, customized for you! It’s brand new, so it’s hard to say yet how it compares to Boxycharm. I just subscribed, so stay tuned for my first review of the upgraded Ipsy bags next month! I love their sample bags, so I’m sure their large bag will be amazing.
I always love their boxes and the amazing value of products. There are always high-end brand names and a variety of items that I’ll actually use. It’s an affordable way to supplement your makeup collection!
